  • Day 1

Make your own way to our accommodation in Rome for the start of the tour. After you have met your Expat Explore tour leader and checked into the Rome hotel, the group will head into the centre of Rome for an afternoon guided tour encompassing ancient wonders and Renaissance master pieces. You will see the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Roman Forum and the Coliseum. This evening, enjoy traditional Italian cuisine with an included dinner.

    Day 2

This is your free day to explore the ancient city of Rome or join us for the optional excursion to the Vatican City - with an area of only 44 hectares; it is officially the smallest country in the world! Head to the opera, check out the Coliseum, grab a slice of pizza or try some regional wine.

    Day 3

Today, the coach travels north towards Venice, but en route we stop in the Tuscan town of Siena. Siena is famous for its cuisine, art, museums, medieval cityscape and the Palio, a horse race held twice a year. After pausing here briefly, we continue onto the romantic city of Venice. Stretching across 118 islands, you will check in to the hotel and then spend the evening discovering Venice on an orientation walking tour. See the Rialto Bridge, St Marks Square, the Bridge of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace. Afterwards, indulge in an espresso in one of the many piazzas or relax on a gondola.

    Day 4

Today is great day to explore Venice on your own. We recommend a visit to the Island of Murano for a glass-blowing and lace-making demonstration. Alternatively, you can simply relax and soak up the sun on the sandy beaches at Jesolo or Lido.

    Day 5

We continue on to the Alps from Venice, climbing higher into the mountains to our accommodation in a typical Swiss mountain village in the Jungfrau region. One of the most popular alpine destinations, it’s a great introduction to the magic of the mountains – and makes for a memorable drive too. Dinner is at your hotel and afterwards relax, drink , chat with your fellow explorers and grab an early night as tomorrow you can join us on our most popular optional excursion – the Top of Europe!

    Day 6

Enjoy a free day to explore and take in the spectacular local scenery. One of the ‘must see’ highlights of this tour is to take the optional excursion train ride to the ‘Top of Europe’ – Jungfraujoch. The views will leave you breathless (and that isn’t just because of the high altitude!) This 4000m glacier has a beauty all of its own, and the combination of ice, snow, rock and epic views will stay with you for life. There is snow all year round, even in the middle of summer!

    Day 7

This morning, we continue into Germany, where your Rhine Valley experience awaits: enjoy a drink as the Rhine River boat takes you to the heart of the Rhine Valley. Sights along the way include the most concentrated stretch of castles in Europe, vineyards, cliffs and medieval German towns. After a tasty German dinner, take a relaxing stroll along the river, enjoy the hospitality of the locals, or quench your thirst with the taste of a local German beer and take time out to relax.

    Day 8

The Netherlands is our next stop, and we arrive first at the windmill for a quick photo stop. Afterwards enjoy a traditional cheese-making demonstration, and learn about how that most quirky and quaint of footwear choices – the clog – is made, before travelling onward to Amsterdam. Here we’ll check in to our hotel before joining a complimentary Amsterdam canal cruise! Watch the city drift past as you sail by, and listen out for tips and interesting insights into the city from your tour leader. Later on, join your tour leader for a walking tour of the infamous Red Light District! The evening is yours – explore the canals and Dam Square, and enjoy your time in this fascinating city.

    Day 9

The day is yours to further explore Amsterdam. There is so much on offer, from visiting Anne Frank’s house and the Van Gogh museum, to taking a canal boat cruise.

    Day 10

After breakfast, it’s back to London, stopping en route for a short comfort stop in the medieval city of Bruges that is famous for many things... including beer and chocolates!
