  • Our new 14 day itinerary tour commences at Milan Malpensa and concludes in Munich. Two really amazing weeks with spectacular sightseeing, quaint villages, famous towns and cities and the chance to see the two spectacular Passion Play events of 2020. The attached itinerary is preliminary only and is subject to change.

    This tour will be hosted by Mons David Bell from Palmerston North. The tour will be truly amazing – a trip of a lifetime, and incorporates touring in Italy, Austria and Germany.

  • Italy, Austria and Germany Passion Plays tour

    Tour commences at Milan Malpensa and concludes 14 days later in Munich. Two really amazing weeks with spectacular sightseeing, quaint villages, famous towns and cities and the two spectacular Passion Play events of 2020.
    Day 1: Milan Malpensa
    Arrive Milan Malpensa International Airport and transfer to our hotel. Sordevolo is a commune in the Province of Biella in the Italian region of Piedmont, located northeast of Turin. Overnight Turin area. Welcome dinner (included) tonight. D 
    Day 2: Sordevolo Passion Play
    Free time to explore the picturesque village of Sordevolo in the foothills of the mountains then optional visit to the Passion play theatre. Overnight Sordevolo area. B
    Day 3: Turin, Shroud of Turin
    Today we explore Turin - the capital city of the Piedmont area of northern Italy and known for its refined architecture and cuisine. The Alps rise to the northwest of the city. Stately baroque buildings and old cafes line Turin's boulevards and grand squares such as Piazza Castello and Piazza San Carlo. Free time to explore Turin. Entrance to the Shroud of Turin exhibition (subject to availability). Continue to Lake Garda our base for 2 nights. B
    Day 4: Sirmione, Lake Garda
    Sirmione is a resort town on the southern bank of Lake Garda, in northern Italy. It’s known for its thermal baths and Rocca Scaligera, a medieval castle overlooking the lake. Set at the tip of a peninsula, the Archaeological Site of Grotte di Catullo encompasses a Roman villa, a museum and olive trees. Just below the ruins is the rocky Jamaica Beach. The church of San Pietro in Mavino is adorned with frescoes. Today we have free time to explore Sirmione and beautiful Lake Garda. B
    Day 5: Verona, Venice
    Depart Sirmioni for historic Verona. Verona is a city in northern Italy’s Veneto region, with a medieval old town built between the meandering Adige River. It’s famous for being the setting of Shakespeare’s "Romeo and Juliet." A 14th-century residence with a tiny balcony overlooking a courtyard is said be “Juliet’s House." The Verona Arena is a huge 1st-century Roman amphitheater, which currently hosts concerts and large-scale opera performances. We visit the famous Juliets Balcony. Continue to Venice and overnight. B
    Day 6: Venice, Italian Alps,Bolzano, Innsbruck
    Venice is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.

    Free time to explore before we depart Venice for Innsbruck via the Italian Alps and Bolzano. Overnight Innsbruck. B
    Day 7: Innsbruck
    Innsbruck, capital of Austria’s western state of Tyrol, is a city in the Alps and a destination for winter sport fans. Innsbruck is also known for its Imperial and modern architecture. The Nordkette funicular, with futuristic stations designed by architect Zaha Hadid, climbs up to 2,256m from the city centre for skiing in winter and hiking or mountaineering in summer. B
    Day 8: Hall
    This morning we visit Hasegg Catle and the picturesque town of Hall beside the River Inn. This afternoon we depart for beautiful Oberammergau – our base for 2 nights. B,D
    Day 9: Oberammergau Passion Play
    As well as being famous for its once in-a-decade performances of the Passion Play the town features The House of Pilate which has frescoes by Franz Seraph Zwinck and live demonstrations by woodcarvers and artists. The Kölblhaus has a gabled roof and a painted exterior, also by Zwinck and the Oberammergau Museum features woodcarvings by local artisans. Free time to explore the town with its quaint shops before the BIG event of our tour – The Oberammergau Passion Play. B,D
    Day 10: Oberammergau, Neuschwanstein, Church in the Meadows
    Depart Oberammergau to visit Neuschwanstein and the Church in the Meadows. Continue to Munich and overnight. B
    Day 11: Munich Munich,
    Bavaria’s capital, is home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums. The city is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its beer halls, including the famed Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589. In the Altstadt (Old Town) the central Marienplatz Square contains landmarks such as Neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus (town hall), with a popular glockenspiel show that chimes and re-enacts scenes from the 16th century. This morning we have an orientation tour of Munich including Marienplatz followed by free time. B
    Day 12: Berchtesgarden Eagles Nest
    Explore Munich or optional visit to the Eagle’s Nest in Berchtesgaden, Adolf Hitler’s famous mountaintop retreat, on this day trip from Munich. Travel by air-conditioned coach through Bavaria’s lush mountain scapes, and ride a bus and elevator to the lodge, 6,148 feet (1,834 meters) up Mt Kehlstein. B
    Day 13: Dachau, Munich
    This morning we travel to Dachau to visit the site of the WW2 concentration camp. Dachau was the first of the Nazi concentration camps opened in Germany, intended to hold political prisoners. This afternoon we return to Munich. Farewell dinner (included) tonight. B,D
    Day 14: Munich
    The tour concludes after breakfast this morning. Transfer for group flight included. B
