Number of Days: 7
Destination: Great Britain
Available Dates
  • This tour of Scotland really takes you into the outer wilds of Scotland’s rugged scenery. Spend some time exploring Scotland’s second city, the cultural hub of Glasgow before travelling on to the remote but beautiful Isle of Skye and the Isle of Lewis and Harris. Spend time in the isolated Outer Hebrides enjoying the stunning scenery and coastlines.

  • DAY 1We depart from London’s Euston Station where we board the train for Glasgow. The journey takes us up the “West Coast Main Line” to Carlisle and through the lowlands of Scotland to Glasgow. A packed lunch is taken on the train. On our arrival we transfer to our hotel. In the late afternoon there is the opportunity to take a look at the city either by foot with or without a guide or by open top bus. In the evening there is a welcome drinks party and dinner at our hotel.

DAY 2We depart from Glasgow and head for the Isle of Skye, stopping for lunch at Fort William. It’s a journey taking in some of Scotland’s finest scenery as we drive to Kyle of Lochalsh before crossing the bridge to the Isle of Skye. Our hotel is situated in Portree where we spend two nights. Dinner is taken at our hotel.

DAY 3Today we have the opportunity to get to know the most famous of the Scottish Islands. In the morning there is a half day tour which travels past the famous Cullin Hills, whose peaks are often obscured by a veil of mist. We will visit Dunvegan Castle, the stronghold of the chiefs of the clan MacLeod for nearly 800 years. Rich in history, the picturesque building is matched by its glorious surroundings including the stunning gardens. The afternoon is spent at Portree, the largest town on Skye.

DAY 4Our coach takes us to Uig where we lunch and board the ferry for the crossing to Tarbert. On arrival in Tarbert we explore the Isle of Harris. Harris is actually joined to the Isle of Lewis. Harris has a wide range of landscapes, all of which have their own charm and interest. On the west coast lie some of the most spectacular beaches of Britain. In the north, the terrain is rugged and mountainous. The attraction of Harris is its peace and tranquillity, the magnificent scenery and beaches and the warmth of its people. From here we will drive to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, the only town in the Outer Hebrides, and check into our hotel for two nights.

DAY 5Today we will explore both the town of Stornoway and the Isle of Lewis with its rolling moorland and low lying hills dotted with fresh water lochs, and its coastline of rugged cliffs often giving way to huge, white sandy beaches. We’ll see the restored Black House at Arnol, the exceptionally well preserved Carloway Broch and the celebrated Standing Stones of Callanish. We return to Stornoway and to our hotel for dinner.

DAY 6We board the ship at Stornoway to arrive on the Scottish mainland at Ullapool. It is 53 miles through the Highlands to Inverness. Our journey takes us almost the full length of Loch Ness. On arrival in Inverness we check into our hotel. There is the opportunity to explore the town this evening, after a farewell dinner in a restaurant in Inverness.

DAY 7After a leisurely start we transfer to Inverness railway station and board the train to London where our journey ends. There is also the option to fly back to London or travel to Dublin from Glasgow to join one of our Irish tours.
