  • Wales is the UK’s undiscovered secret; packed full of stunning scenery, beautiful coastlines, ancient castles and friendly people. During this tour you will visit the capital city of Cardiff, travel on a steam train through the glorious Mid-Wales countryside and visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Caernarfon Castle where his Royal Highness Prince Charles was invested as Prince of Wales. Learn a few words of Welsh along the way, a Celtic language still spoken every day here!


  • DAY 1 Today we depart London on the direct train to Cardiff and discover the capital of Wales, a vibrant city built around a castle and featuring plenty of impressive historic buildings as well as handsome parks and gardens. We will be taken on a tour of the city before visiting Cardiff Castle which stands proudly in the centre of the city. Our accommodation will be in the Cardiff area.

    DAY 2 Today we will travel from Cardiff into the Brecon Beacons National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visit the Rhondda Heritage Park, whose main highlight is the Blaenavon Big Pit. Blaenavon town is a World Heritage site, and we have the option to embark on a 300 foot descent into the former colliery to experience the life of a working miner. We will continue learning about the industrial history of Wales, stopping for lunch in the village of Six Bells and take a stroll to see Guardian, an impressive mining memorial that stands 20 metres tall.

    DAY 3 We will travel into the Pembrokeshire peninsula, an area known throughout the world for its stunning coastal scenery. On the way, we stop at Laugharne on the banks of the Taf estuary. We can have a guided tour of the town, including a visit to the boathouse where Dylan Thomas lived with his family for the last four years of his life, the final resting place of himself and his wife Caitlin, and the fantastic ruins of Laugharne castle. Stop at the seaside resort of Tenby along the way.

    DAY 4 Today we travel to the beautiful coastal town of Aberystwyth, a university town in the heart of Mid-Wales. Have a free morning here to explore its seafront and quirky independent shops before travelling to the village of Devil’s Bridge in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains. Spend some time at the mystical waterfalls here before travelling on the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway which will take you through the breathtaking Rheidol valley.

    DAY 5 We will begin our journey into North Wales, travelling first to the town of Machynlleth. On arrival in Machynlleth we will visit a working Welsh farm, before enjoying a short guided tour of the Owain Glyndwr centre and a traditional Welsh lunch complete with Welsh harpist. We then travel to our accommodation for the night, along the way passing through the stunning Snowdonia National Park and past the market town of Dolgellau which is overlooked by the mountain of Cader Idris, where it is said you will become a madman or a poet if you stay overnight!

    DAY 6 Today we will travel first to the busy market town of Caernarfon. The imposing medieval Castle, built by King Edward I, dominates the town and has well-deserved UNESCO World Heritage status. From here, travel on to the island of Anglesey. Connected to the North Wales coast by two bridges, it features long stretches of coastline that have been declared Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a lot to see packed into this little island; visit the castle and gaol in Beaumaris in the morning and we will stop at the longest place name in Europe, known locally as Llanfair PG. In the afternoon we will visit the Snowdonia National Park, the location of the highest mountain in England and Wales, and breathtaking views.

    DAY 7 Today we will depart for our return journey by direct train to London.
